Annual Conference Highlights & Photo Gallery

jim and patyCSRHA’s 7th Annual Conference was a great success! Thank you to everyone who participated. We had over 200 attendees, 53 speakers, 44 exhibitors, and 14 sponsors! The conference also inaugurated CSRHA’s 1st Annual Photo Contest, which garnered so much attention that the photographs were sold at an impromptu auction during the closing luncheon! In addition, CSRHA’s silent auction, a perennial crowd-favorite, was especially popular this year and raised over $3,000.

Other highlights included:

  • Inspiring opening remarks from conference co-chair Assemblywoman Jean Fuller and CSRHA Board President Kathy Yarbrough set the tone for our best conference to date!

  • An informative and entertaining key note about promoting healthy behavior in rural communities from the Prevention Institute’s Rachel Davis. Ms. Davis worked the crowd with her amusing presentation of statistics and humorous anecdotes! Click here to download her presentation, Putting Prevention at the Center of Community Wellbeing.

  • The Rural Health Research Poster Session featuring innovative findings of rural researchers from across the State.

  • Senior Health Policy Advisor to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Herb Schultz, made an impromptu visit during day one of the conference! Mr. Schultz took time out of his busy schedule to speak with conference attendees and answer questions about various aspects of health care reform. Thank you, Mr. Schultz!

  • The six breakout sessions on a diverse array of health care topics featured wonderful presentations from expert speakers. CSRHA has collected the presentations and created the 2007 Annual Rural Health Conference Toolkit, available at www.csrha.org.

  • The California Legislative Town Hall Meeting was a dynamic conversation between legislative staff members and conference attendees. The panel included: Paul Deiro, Chief of Staff to Senator Sam Aanestad; Chuck Hahn, Volunteer Executive Director, California Legislative Rural Caucus and Chief of Staff to Senator Dave Cogdill; Mia Orr, Legislative Aide to Senator Sheila Kuehl; and Michelle Cabrera, Legislative Aide to Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny. Discussion topics included 2007 accomplishments, 2008 legislative priorities and the impact of the budget on healthcare in California. It was a great session and the room was packed!

  • A tear-jerking Rural Champion Awards Luncheon. California State Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny was the recipient of the 2007 Rural Champion in Legislative Service Award, while six very inspiring rural community health advocates received a 2007 Rural Champion in Community Service Award.
