Judy Horn, Founder and Community Specialist, Kings Partnership for Children
Nominated by: Gail Nickerson, Adventist Health
Judy’s passion is her community, centered in Home Garden south of Hanford in Kings County. Her life’s work is helping the people living in this community obtain important resources. Some of King County’s most disadvantaged individuals and families live in Home Garden, with 42 percent of residents live at or below the federal poverty level.
Judy was instrumental in the founding of the Kings Partnership for Children - Hand in Hand Family Resource Center, an organization dedicated to raising the standard of living for all families, regardless of culture, religion, economic level, or education, by bringing resources together that give them the ability to become a positive family unit. She also worked closely with the Central Valley General Hospital administration to establish a clinic in Home Garden, which opened in July 2007. This represents the first new construction in the community in over 20 years!
Judy was recognized by California State Assemblymember Nicole Parra as the 30th assembly district’s Woman of the Year in 2006. In presenting the honor, Assemblymember Parra referred to Judy as the “personification of community service.” Judy continues to advocate at every opportunity for the health and safety of all members of her community, especially the children.
