CSRHA Staff Express Their Hopes for 2008

What a year it has been for the California State Rural Health Association! We certainly have had our share of memorable moments in 2007 and we have a lot to be proud of. The publication of California Health Reform: What’s at Stake for Rural Communities?, CSRHA’s involvement in the recent $22 million FCC Rural Pilot Program award to the state of California, and a very popular 7th Annual Rural Health Conference are just a few noteworthy accomplishments.

In addition, the CSRHA Board of Directors recently formalized the organization’s vision statement. “Empowered rural people creating healthy rural communities,” is an ideal each of CSRHA staff member is wholeheartedly behind, and we are very excited to begin the New Year with this vision in mind.

We are also pleased with the boost in membership, with 45 new organizations and individuals joining CSRHA this past year! We have forged relationships with many new organizations and seen so many new faces in recent months, both at our regional rural roundtables, issue-based work groups, and the annual conference. Welcome to CSRHA!

CSRHA has also experienced a few organizational changes. In July 2007, we said farewell to Whitney Brooks, former CSRHA Program Associate, as she bravely set off to begin a new chapter of her life in Israel. Cathy Martin, former Executive Director, also resigned from her position late last year, and all of us were sad to see her go. We were very excited, however, to welcome former CSRHA interns, Angela Adams and Jessica Wilson, as full time members of the CSRHA team.

The premier of the newly redesigned Rural Health Advocate is a perfect venue for reintroducing our readers to the talented young staff who are working hard to carry out CSRHA’s mission of preserving and enhancing health in rural California in 2008. We invite you to click on the photos below to learn more about each staff member, including their personal interests, what they do at CSRHA, and how they might be of assistance to you in the months to come.
