Jean Fuller, R-32 Assembly District
By Earl W. Ferguson, M.D., Ph.D., Director, Telemedicine, Outreach and Rural Healthcare Delivery, Ridgecrest Regional Hospital
Assemblymember Jean Fuller has been an untiring advocate for the rural residents of the 32nd Assembly District (including Ridgecrest, Tehachapi, Taft, Kern River Valley, and Frazier Mountain communities) in addition to the underserved populations in Bakersfield and other rural and underserved communities throughout California. Elected as Chair of the California State Legislative Caucus in her first year in office, she has led the bipartisan group of 43 Assembly Members and Senators to provide a strong, united voice in the state legislature for residents of rural communities.
She has interacted extensively with CSRHA and its leadership to better develop her understanding of statewide rural issues. She has attended CSRHA Rural Roundtables and the CSRHA Annual Meeting to speak directly to CSRHA members from throughout the state and to get feedback on their particular community concerns and issues. She has been a particular supporter of telehealth and telemedicine extension to rural communities to provide healthcare for those underserved areas through advanced health information technology applications. In that regard, she has counseled selected CSRHA Board of Director, Advocacy Committee and Rural Technical Advisory Committee members on how to effectively address policy and legislative issues.
