CSRHA will be hosting our Annual Legislative Town Hall Meeting November 10, 2010 from 10:45am- 12noon at this year's Annual Rural Health Conference. At the time of the Annual Rural Health Conference, California will have just elected the next Governor of the state. Voters will also have also elected a new state Legislature, which will include at least 30 new members to the 80 member Assembly, 10 new members to the 40 member state Senate, and passed or defeated ballot initiatives ranging from the vote requirement for passing a state budget, increasing vehicle license fees to pay for state parks, delaying air quality protections and more.
The Legislative Town Hall Meeting provides a time for conference attendees to hear directly from experienced state Legislators and key Legislative health analyst staff who are knowledgeable about healthcare, rural California, public health and the state budget.
The state Legislature plays a major role in health information technology, federal health care reform implementation, health workforce planning and reforms, and public health programs like MediCal. This session allows conferees not only a chance to hear the prognostications of respected state Legislators and staff regarding where they believe the state and Legislature is going on these issue, what can be expected in the next year’s Legislative session, and how best to communicate rural health information to legislators and health policy staff, but also to engage in dialogue with these policymakers.
Legislators confirmed to date are:
- Assembly Member Manuel Perez (San Diego), Chair Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy Committee, member of committees on Health, Aging and Long-term Care, Government Organization, Career Technical Education and Workforce Development, Domestic Violence, Healthcare Workforce Access, and others.
- Assembly Member Wesley Chesbro (North Coast), member of committees on Budget, Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, Government Organization and Higher Education, and other Committees.
- Assembly Member (soon to be State Senate) Edward P. Hernandez (Los Angeles), Chair Healthcare Workforce Access, and other committees on Health, Governmental Organization, and others (Invited)
