California State Legislature’s Rural Caucus
Hosting Rural Health Workforce Hearing
August 10
, 2010
10am-12noon

On Tuesday, August 10, 2010, the California Legislature’s Rural Caucus will hold a hearing at the state Capitol focused on rural health workforce issus. The hearing is being sponsored by CSRHA and stakeholders in California’s rural health system.

One of the greatest challenges facing California’s rural health care system is a shortage in available health care workforce. Rural health care workforce shortages touch all levels of the rural health care system from doctors and nurses to auxiliary and technical support staff.  There are new health care workforce resources available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and federal health care reform, and there are best practice programs being worked on throughout rural California. At the same time there are increased pressures on rural health care workforce stemming from the push for eHealth adoption, implementation of federal health care reform, and advances in treatment and care through telemedicine.

The hearing will be focused on providing information to Legislators and their staff the big picture issues involving health care workforce in rural California, who is doing what, what needs to be done and what resources are, should or could be in play to help move California forward in resolving rural healthcare workforce issues. Besides painting the big picture of health care workforce issues the hearing will specifically cover recruitment, education, retention and emerging rural health care workforce issues.

Please RSVP to this hearing by contacting Shannon Means indicating you will be attending the hearing. If you have any questions please contact the CSRHA office or the Legislature’s Rural Caucus Chair, Assembly Member Connie Conway’s Chief of Staff, Dillion Gibbions at 916-319-2034 or dillon.gibbons@asm.ca.gov.

10am-11am

CSRHA in partnership with The Labor Occupational Health Program (LOHP) would like to invite you attend a free Webinar on August 11, 2010 from 10am-11am titled 2010 Health Illness Prevention.

Educational Materials developed by the Campaign include:

  1. The Heat Illness Prevention Factsheet
  2. How to report a problem to Cal/OSHA
