American Academy of Pediatrics Seeks Proposals
Deadline: Jan. 29

An online Call for Proposals, along with a sample application, is now available for the Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Implementation Funds Program. Offered by the American Academy of Pediatrics, CATCH supports pediatricians in the initial and/or pilot stage of developing and implementing a community-based child health initiative. The program is designed to help increase children's access to a medical home or specific health services not otherwise available. Multiple grants up to $12,000 each are available to pediatricians.

Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development: Honoring Nations
Deadline: January 29, 2010

The Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development aims to foster the conditions under which sustained, self-determined social and economic development is achieved among American Indian nations. Honoring Nations is a national awards program that recognizes tribal government programs and initiatives that are especially effective in addressing critical concerns and challenges facing the more than 560 Indian nations and their citizens.

Community-Campus Partnerships for Health Invites Nominations for 2010 Annual Award

Awards will be given to established partnerships involving one or more community partners and one or more higher education partners working to improve higher education, civic engagement, and the overall health of their communities.

Suicide Prevention Resource Center Grant

This program provides prevention support, training, and resources to assist organizations and individuals to develop suicide prevention programs, interventions, and policies for the advancement of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.

Department of Health & Human Services: Projects to Deliver Peer-to-Peer Recovery Support Services
Deadline: February 16, 2010

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment(CSAT) announces the availability of FY 2010 funds for grants to deliver peer-to-peer recovery support services that help prevent relapse and promote sustained recovery from alcohol and drug use disorders.  Successful applicants will provide peer-to-peer recovery support services that are responsive to community needs and strengths, and will carry out a performance assessment of these services. RCSP is intended to support peer leaders from the recovery community in providing recovery support services to people in recovery and their family members, and to foster the growth of communities of recovery that will help individuals and families, achieve and sustain long-term recovery.

Center for Collaborative Planning: WHLRegional Program

This year, up to 20 women leaders working in nonprofits in Madera, Merced, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin counties will be selected to attend a year long leadership development program.
The viability of nonprofit organizations depends on leaders who have a sense of purpose and passion to succeed by also requires a healthy does of optimism and wielding of critical nonprofit management tools. WHL San Joaquin Valley seeks to accomplish these goals by providing an environment that strengthens community and provides training and technical assistance in leadership development and management skills.

The Kresge Foundation: Health Clinic Opportunity Fund
Deadline: March 1, 2010

The Kresge Foundation’s Caring Communities initiative supports safety-net institutions providing prevention, primary, acute, and chronic care to underserved populations in rural and urban settings. The initiative’s Health Clinic Opportunity Fund is a national grant program developed in response to the rapid increase in the number of people losing their jobs and health insurance as a result of the economic crisis. Grants ranging from $75,000 to $150,000 per year for a maximum of two years will be provided to build the operational capacity of charitable health clinics, public-health clinics, and those designated as federally qualified health center look-alikes. (Federally qualified health centers are not eligible to apply.)

Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Tribal Self-Governance Program

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) has announced approximately $391 million in funding available to federally recognized tribes. This program helps This program helps further the goals of Indian Self-Determination by providing funds to tribes to administer a wide range of programs with broad administrative and programmatic flexibility. Programs include: law enforcement; tribal courts; scholarships; social services; road maintenance; forestry; agriculture; wildlife and parks; and water resources.

Centers for Disease Control- Foundation Hero Award

Nominations of public health leaders are invited for the 2010 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Foundation Hero Award. The CDC Foundation Hero Award is designed to honor a distinguished leader who has made a significant impact in the field of public health. The award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to improving the public's health through exemplary work in advancing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's mission of promoting health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability.

The Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) Announces U.S. American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) Awards

William Randolph Hearst Foundations
Deadline: Ongoing

The Hearst Foundations assist leading regional hospitals, medical centers and specialized medical institutions, such as children's and women's hospitals. The Foundations fund direct medical services that promote wellness, prevention and rehabilitation. Areas of interest include cancer, geriatrics, neonatology, perinatology, pediatrics, women's health, and the disabled. Support for advanced professional education and training is also considered in these fields. In response to the ongoing nursing shortage, the Foundations also fund nursing programs designed to enhance skills and increase the number of practitioners and educators in this field.

RGK Foundation
Deadline: Ongoing

The Foundation's current interests in the area of Medicine/Health include programs that promote the health and well-being of children, programs that promote access to health services, and Foundation-initiated programs focusing on ALS. All applicants must complete an electronic Letter of Inquiry from the Web site as the first step. RGK Foundation will entertain one electronic Letter of Inquiry (LOI) per organization in a twelve-month period. There are no deadlines for LOIs.
