USDA Seeks Applicants for Broadband Grants in Rural Areas - Up to $13.4 Million Available

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced on April 28, 2009 that USDA is accepting applications for grants to bring broadband service to rural areas.

State and local governments, corporations and Indian tribes are eligible to apply for grants from $50,000 to $1 million through USDA's Community Connect Grant Program, which was created to help rural residents tap into the tremendous potential of the internet.

Applications are due by the close of business on June 19. The application guide for this grant program, FAQs, and information on an upcoming technical assistance webinar can be found at the Community Connect Grant Program website.


HRSA Releases Guidance for Recovery Act Capital Infrastructure Funding

On May 1, 2009, HRSA released the guidance for the $1.5 billion in capital infrastructure funding. The base amount per health center for this pot of funds is $250,000 with an additional $35 per patient served (based on the CY 2008 UDS submission) up to the award ceiling of $2.5 million. HRSA will be hosting a series of technical assistance calls for this funding, beginning with a basic overview of the guidance on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 2:30 to 4PM EDT (11:30 to 1PM PDT). The due date for submission is Tuesday, June 2nd and the funding will be awarded for the 2 year period from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011.
