Frequently Asked Questions

What's this about?

We are making a documentary film studying rural health and health care issues in California. The project is focusing on many facets, from legislation and funding to problems with recruitment and even geographical issues.

Who's actually making the film?

The project is being funded by the California State Rural Health Association (CSRHA), a rural health advocacy organization based in Sacramento, CA. The film is being produced by the EMRL Media Group, a production company also based in Sacramento.

How does it work?

Our small production crew, usually 2-4 people, has been traveling to rural clinics, schools, hospitals, and so forth in an attempt to gather enough footage to paint a broad picture of the condition of health and health care in rural areas of our state.

What's with mounting the camera on the front of the car?

Huge factors in the rural health issues faced by California are it's size and varying topography. Residents in a desert have an entirely different set of issues than the residents of the mountainous Sierra, for example. One of the ways we are demonstrating California's diverse landscape is by gathering footage while driving. In the finished product, the motion provided by that footage will help emotionally transport the viewer from issue to issue, place to place.

Documentary filming has given CSRHA the opportunity to hear directly from rural health professionals about why they chose to work in their community. They all share one thing in common, a commitment to the people they serve.
